The Trifecta Abroad, Part I in London

More than 3 years ago, I told my Mom to pick anywhere in the world for a vacation and I would plan it all. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our first trip due to COVID. So here we are now in 2023 and my Mom, Sister and I, also known as the Trifecta, finally made it across the pond! I do hope this is the first of many trips we can take together.

We kicked things off in London. After arriving on a red-eye, we wasted no time and took the Tube to see Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theater. What a great show! Luckily, we all seemed to handle the time difference well and the next morning, we had tickets to the Tower of London. This 900-year-old fortress once served as a royal palace, political prison and site for executions. Most famously, Anne Boleyn! It is also home to the Crown Jewels, which have their own guards onsite. We arrived just after opening time and the queue stretched all the way around the outer stone walls. We spent a few hours exploring the historic complex.

After some lunch, we took a stroll over the Tower Bridge. Then we caught a City Cruise boat back up the Thames river. Even with a bit of rain, we really enjoyed the views from the water. Our last stop was the Churchill War Rooms before heading back to our apartment.

We had another full day planned and found it very easy to move around the city on the Tube. It is so efficient, it puts our Trimet to shame! We made it back over to Westminster for a visit to the Abbey. This beautiful church is at the heart of British history, with every royal coronation since 1066 being held here as well as weddings and burials. We saw many elaborate tombs for monarchs and famous British subjects, like Mary Queen of Scots and Issac Newton.

Afterwards, we walked to Buckingham Palace. The Palace was not yet open for the summer, so we wandered around the gates and gardens. Busy Piccadilly was next along with some shopping in Soho. With all the walking, our feet were tired by this point and we finished the day off with a nice dinner.

We really enjoyed our short time in London with great sights, food and company. But we were ready to leave the hustle and bustle so, next up… Ireland! ☘

It’s so cool that you were able to share this trip with your mom and sister, I was concerned that the “Trifecta” could rip a hole in the anxiety-sphere but, from the sounds of it, was problem free and fun trip. Except you losing your bag on the way home. 😦

    Once again, wonderful pictures…
