Lovely Lake Como, Italy

Our final stop in Italy, Lake Como. Sometimes the best is saved for last!

I would love to spend a summer here someday but even in spring it was magical. Beautiful villas and gardens line the lake and with the wisteria in full bloom, it made for a romantic and dreamy setting. Perfect for a honeymoon! But also a girls trip 😉 After the rain in Venice, we lucked out with weather and the light morning fog cleared to sunny skies!

We based ourselves on the west side of the lake in the village of Lenno at a cute B&B. It was within walking distance to the stunning Villa del Balbianello which you might recognize it from Star Wars, Attack of the Clones and Casino Royale. I think I took more pictures here than anywhere else in Italy!

We left quaint little Lenno behind and caught a ferry over to the lake’s most famous town, Bellagio. We strolled the cobbled lanes, browsed the boutique shops and stopped for gelato.

Next we ferried over to Varenna, affectionately called the Diamond of the Lake. The colorful buildings easily make this the most picturesque village. It was too cold for swimming so we did some more walking and had a leisurely lunch consisting of our Italian staples; pizza, pasta and wine. After a gorgeous day, a final ferry ride took us back to Lenno.

We couldn’t have asked for a better ending to our trip! I can’t wait to start planning another spring break getaway with Stassi.
