A Winter Getaway to Stockholm, Sweden

We had a few days off this holiday season and found ourselves in Stockholm, Sweden. This was our first time in Scandinavia and we were excited to experience it in winter. Our first day, we ventured out to walk the city and enjoy Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s old town and the nearby Royal Palace. By mid-afternoon, it began to snow… and it didn’t stop the rest of the trip!

We were lucky to be in town for the opening weekend of Stortorget Christmas Market. This market started in 1837 and is the oldest in the city. We browsed the cute booths with crafts and foods on offer, partaking in some hot chocolate and Glogg, a warm spiced wine.

As the snow continued to fall, we bundled up and headed out for more sightseeing. We took the train over to Djurgården, which has a royal park and several museums.

The Vasa Museum was a highlight for us. This beautiful museum is home to a Royal Swedish warship that was built in 1626 and sunk on its maiden voyage. It was underwater for 333 years before being recovered and is the only preserved ship of the 17th century.

Thanks for a great time, Stockholm!
